The first time I heard it I thought it was pretty good. The production is pretty awesome I think and Meat's vocals sound superb on it. But the production seems to hide the fact these are just poor songs in my opinion. They never seem to reach a level of comfort or excitement that is very apparent on the one song that was left off "Prize Fight Lover".
So I would say it's my least favourite Meat Loaf album songwise, even to the extent I much prefer songs such as "Keep Driving", "Burning Down" and "All of Me", all from albums which I'm sure took a LOT less effort to put together. These are simply more interesting songs. I don't think Meat needs to be singing songs which contain profanity either. Why? I much prefer poetic lines such as "Can't you see my faded Levi's bursting apart?" than "I can barely fit my dick in my pants." I just don't get why Meat recorded that kind of stuff or "Next time you stab me in the back you'd better do it to my face." I just think there is no fun in that. It is a very bleak and serious approach to lyrics. I just don't like it personally.
To be absolutely fair though I did enjoy hearing the HCTB sings live in 2010. I had no problem listening to those 4 picked songs 4 times in a row as they were performed very well and Meat's voice was pretty good during the Dec 2010 tour I thought.
