Well the cover is great (although the inside booklet artwork/layout sucks).

Pros

Who Needs The Young? has a great arrangement and Meat's vocal just about works.

DIRTY JOB and GODZ also have great arrangements.

Ellen/Karla are great on GOING ALL THE WAY.

The new bridge section in TONGUES is great, although I'm still not too keen on the song overall.

Cons

Meat's vocals (still) don't work for me. Jim describes them as 'heroic' and they may well be but at best they would only be suited (now) to a stripped back acoustic type arrangement (think the last things Johnny Cash did). Certainly not the bombast and complexity of a Steinman song.

The piano sound throughout is not very good. Probably midi and in turn 'thin' with no depth or richness of an acoustic grand. I'm surprised Jim (presumably) okayed it.

The production is not on a par with Jim at his best (think Bat 2 or Tanz). The more I listen the more it gets 'diluted' for me. Certainly can't describe it as Steinmanesque. The closest it gets is on GOING ALL THE WAY (in a few places) but still falls short.

Also what were they thinking in replacing the thrilling and frantic cello attack on MORE with a barely audible electronic sound?

Stacy Michelle is obviously a very good singer but I do not like the tone of her voice. Karine Hannah, Lorraine Crosby or Patti Russo would have been better choices.

In fact, I wish they would still do the Karine Hannah/Steinman album as her vocals at the NYC shows last year were tremendous. She would be great on NOTHING from Garbo?

The song choices were bizarre. Lets face it, SOUVENIRS and TRAIN of LOVE are never gonna be in a Steinman top 10 (or 50) and were long forgotten (even by Jim). There are far better (and rare) pieces in the Steinman catalogue they could have reworked (GARBO and Vaults of Heaven immediately spring to mind).

The revision/edit of SKULL was horrible. I was hoping for a real modern take on the compete TDE69 performance, or at least something similar to what Meat did live in the 80's but no. Also leaving out the 'let the revels begin' section was unforgivable.

I really do hope the BAT musical releases some recorded music, which feature Jim's (direct) production involvement.
