The premiere day

First I must say that the musical was unbelievably fantastic. And it was really nice to meet you all fans again.

Here is my description of the premiere day in Manchester.

I came to Manchester in the early morning plane from Stockholm. It was announced that Steinman fans could meet up at a buffet restaurant a few hours before the show. No one knew how many people would show up. About 60 people showed up and there was a bit of chaos in the restaurant and some had to leave. It was easy to see on the fans that this moment was big and important to them because many were tense and nervous before the show. It was partly due to the uncertainty that no one knew anything about the musical and the fear that it would not live up to expectations and that the evening would thus end in disappointment.

Just over an hour before the show's start, we were all gathered in the Opera. We bought t-shirts, posters and other things. Unfortunately, I missed the group photo, which bothers me a lot. Later we went into the saloon and it turned out that most of us sat in front of the stage on the first 10 rows. I liked this.

The show begins. After the intro “All Revved up” is the first real number, one of the few Steinman songs that I have never liked. But the song was incredibly good, it sounded just like the demo we got in December. After this song, I think everyone was relieved and confident that this would be a fantastic evening. The following 2,5 hours was totally surreal. While one great song after another boomed on I went through a tumultuous discharge. My eyes ran almost continuously, my head got one strong feeling after another, and my body did the movements and twitches that were beyond my control. I have never experienced anything like this before. After the show's end, I felt completely drained and exhausted but I was very happy.

As we all then met after the show, it felt like there was not much to say about the show because we all knew that this was a masterpiece. There were no special moment to lift up because the whole show had been so incredibly good. Some of us went out to bars but my evening ended after two beers because I was too tired to continue. It took me 15 hours to recover me completely from the premiere evening show. Just in time for the Saturday's show.

With this musical Jim Steinman has really proved again that he is the Great Master that we all always have known he is. Thank you Jim!
