I don't know in this case but I do know - remember in The Dream Engine, 1969, Jim as Baal says he's very beautiful, "like he was made up on the phone by two fags"?
Well, that odd little line is a reference to how a journalist for Rolling Stone described Jim Morrison, and Jim (Steinman) actually mentioned it in an article about Jim Morrison which he wrote for the student newspaper. (I'll post the link below)
So - I'm guessing, yes Jim read a lot of music press, and yes, these words to tend to stick with him.
