Absolutely. Meat's voice was natural and he did not learn proper technique so I am told. I also think hitting it big and often doing 2 shows a night of Jim songs would have pretty much harmed anyone's voice. In fact few could have done the Bat tour and completed it without running out of voice and energy.

Meat's average show is at least 2 hours, often more. Had he slowed the touring during the 80's when his voice came back strong and worked with top vocal coaches he probably could have saved it. By then his records were not selling much and he had to tour to make a living, so it probably was not a luxury he could afford.

In recent years they should have worked more with key changes and shorter shows. Meat was often shouting more than singing and the band was cranked up too loud probably to help cover his vocal issues. I recall the backing track that continued playing after he collapsed in Canada which he was singing along to, and which I suspect made up much of the Guilty Pleasures DVD soundtrack since Meat did not sound like himself and it stayed that way 90% of the show.
