I think a lot of artists record a shitload of songs and then pick the best for an album. I don't think that's how Jim worked, I believe he just did the songs he wanted on an album and that was it.
Saying that, I think he probably had a good stash of songs he was tinkering with and recorded with the likes of Rory Dodd, Kyle Gordon, Karine Hannah etc but weren't album-ready.
