Creeper

We all are always on the lookout for new Steinmanesque music. I don't recall if it was this discussion board where someone recommended Creeper-- I cannot find the message now if it was. However, Creeper has been one of my favorite new (if the last 10 years is "new") band since I discovered them a few years back.

Creeper started as a straightforward punk band, with maybe some My Chemical Romance pretensions, but by the second album had turned into a goth parody of Springsteen, which I thought was hilarious and beautiful. The influence of Jim was clearly there. (Maybe Creeper IS that parody of Springsteen that Rundgren thought Meat Loaf was.)

The new album Sanguivore dropped today. It is an explicit love song to Jim's music, the 9-minute opening track Further Than Forever especially. I cannot recommend this highly enough.

Many bands have tried to imitate Steinman, few with success. This is not imitation; this is inheritance.
