LOL. I'd heard "The Phantom Of The Opera" OLC and some of Crawford's albums before I ever knew he would be in "Vampires". I was a fan. "Phantom" is one of my favourite albums ever and Crawford would have been amazing to see. When he did "Vampires" though he didn't even bother to approach the material with respect. He put on that silly Italian accent in the songs and everything! (Of course everyone knows that) But no one knows when exactly he decided to do that. What I'm saying is, if there are demos, produced by Jim Steinman, then he's sang in his normal voice that you'd hear on one of his albums. Or in "Phantom". I'd actually love to hear those, just to see how "Confession Of A Vampire" held up or even a proper studio recording of "A Good Nightmare Comes So Rarely".

Actually, and I've been saying this for a while now, "Vampires" should have been axed and Crawford should have been Joker in "Batman". He wanted a comedic role. Joker happens to be not only a comedic role but just as disturbing and psychologically crazed as the Phantom. Watch the video to "The Music Of The Night" w/ Crawford and Sarah Brightman, it instantly reminds me of the scene in "Batman" where Joker dances with Vicki Vale in the cathedral.

Plus the irony's neat. Nicholson gave the "Batman" film a greater kind of respect when he signed on. Crawford, at the time, was like the stage-equivalent to Nicholson in the theatre world (in that he was powerful), so it would have been an excellent coup for Warner Bros.
