God, I can't believe it's been so long since I was a weird little girl who decided to lay flat on my back in the middle of the floor and listen to my dad's Bat Out of Hell LP because I liked Meat Laof in The Rocky Horror Picture Show... LOL! Anyway, just the fact that I posted a "happy birthday" message last year too forces me to think about everything that's happened to me since then, and everything that your music has carried me through. I haven't been a fan as long as a lot of people... but it already seems likea lifetime to me, because I am a different and better person for letting the music into my life. It took me from adolescence into adulthood (although I still refuse to grow up), into love and back out again... and now back in again! (and we wonder why I havent been posting much?) Across thousands of miles (I drove from Virginia to California, listening to Bat Out of Hell and Bad For Good the whole way), soon to be across the ocean... your music has always carried me. Here's to another year of life, love, excess, and of course the music. Have a happy birthday Jim, and thanks for everything.

Posted by Logan on October 06, 19100 at 16:27:49:
First of all, I hope that you have a raelly great birthday, Jim. You certainly deserve one for having brought so much great music into the world. I have a feeling that 2001 will be a red letter year for you and your music, what with Karine Hannah and your three musicals. I can hardly wait. Anyway have a good one.
Now onto tne subject of sheet music. I have the two bat albums and I am looking for Dead Ringer and Bad For Good. Does abyone know if they are available? I'm not even going to ask about PB because I know it's not out there, but I've heard rumors of DR and BFG. Thanks for your help.

Jim,
Happy, happy birthday. It seems to be a very wonderful time you're heading into career-wise and I hope that's matched with happiness and fullness in your personal life. I could go on and on about what you do for me daily, or your music, at least. Somehow, I think the best tribute might just be to go turn up the stereo, plug in my head-phones, drink a few beers and join you in Neverland.
See you there. And, thanks man. Really.
Lost boy,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM!!

THE MIRROR ROOM is one fan's perspective of the music of Meat Loaf, Jim Steinman, Rocky Horror, and other various assorted artists. I really hope that you enjoy your stay and be careful in this "SHADY SHADY WORLD."
I have always wanted to create a world where my thoughts can flow free like the wind and thus MirrorOfTheSoul.com was born. This is my ongoing tribute to the things that truly inspire my every breath in this life. Without music I do not think that I would be able to carry out at times. There is something about the "right power chords and the precise angle from which to strike" that can really get me going. I would like to humbly thank you for all of the laughter, tears, joy, and sorrow you have brought into my life.
I was asked recently if I could ask you ONE question, what would that be. This made me think for a good long time, until I finally came up with what I would ask and that is, "Mr. Steinman, how is it that you are able to read my mind and the minds of all of the people in the entire universe all at once and how is it that you are able to comprehend all of the different messages that our brains are transmitting and turn them into your songs, which truly are the soundtrack of my, of our inner most souls?"
Never in the history of popular music has anyone worked with such a diverse group of people as you. You have worked with Meat Loaf, Michael Ball, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Bonnie Tyler, Sisters of Mercy, Tina Arena, Cher, Def Leopard, and Barbara Streisand, among others. What an honor it is to be able to be able to write a few words to one of the most influential men in popular music. From the time that Bat Out Of Hell first hit the airwaves and record stores, music was forever changed. Thank you Mr. Steinman for the emotional rape of my mind that has been going on for years.
Here is a toast to you, with fond wishes that this year be the biggest and brightest yet! God speed BAT OUT OF HELL III!!!
Love,
David Michael Driskell

Liked the rest of your post, but this is without a doubt one of the most repulsive metaphors I've ever come across. WHERE did some men get the idea that rape is somehow a good thing?!

Sigh,

Where did I say the "emotional rape of my mind" wa a good thing? Jim's music has caused me much grief in my life, but that is part of its basic appeal to me. It makes me think, unlike the drivel that Mtv serves up on TRL that spoon-feeds emotion without any regard for the betterment of expanding thought processes.

Hey Jim,
I just want to wish you a GREAT birthday, and also take a quick moment to thank you for all the music you have written. It would take too long to try to say what your songs have meant to my life, but I will say that there is not a day that goes by that I don't listen to your music. Your songs have been there for me when I've needed them the most, and helped me in ways that I never could have imagined. So, again, thanks for everything you've given; and most of all:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

First of all the I would like to wish Jim Steinman a very very very happy birthday tomorrow!
To celebrate Jim's birthday the Jim Steinman Temple website has been given a major facelift. I have great news to all Netscape users. Inline frames have been dropped, so Netscape users are now able to enjoy the site. All our pages have been updated. New articles, adverts and pictures have been added to the 'article' section. The new 'musical' section and 'gallery' section are not finished yet. Hopefully we will the new sections up running sometime really soon.

HAPPY JIMDAY EVERYONE!!!

Posted by Angie on November 01, 19100 at 02:24:46:
Ah, it's that time of year again, to celebrate the start of an era.
(And it's a good era, if you happen to live in Neverland).
The birth of Jim Steinman is one of the world's most wonderous events, proving that good things *do* still happen. Or at least, they did about 52 years ago. :)
My offering this year can be seen at:
http://www.steinsearch.webfusion.co.uk/jimday/
Click on a picture, and it'll open into a really huge version, made entirely out of lyrics. :) :) :)
Because these are large html documents, they may crash your browser. It's not that likely, but it *is* possible. So before you view them, save any important work you're doing first. And don't try selecting large portions of text.
I also recommend viewing these ones in Netscape; the pictures get a little distorted in Internet Explorer. Plus if your browser *does* crash Netscpe will just shut down, whereas IE will take out your whole computer because it's effectively part of Windows (95 or above).
And it probably won't work at all in web tv 'cos web tv sucks.
The first two portraits have turned out best, IMHO. I'll take requests if anyone suggests a picture I like, and if anyone can print these out right... can I have a copy? Please?
Have a very merry Steinmas, everybody!!
Angie

Jim, have a very happy birthday. I am a new fan compared to many that write on this board, but I am a true believer in your words and music. Over the last few months my collection of your material has grown and grown. To be honest, it's been like finding a new religion almost and from your songs I take advice and comfort. If there exists a way to thank you properly for this influence, I wish I knew it. Happy birthday, I'm glad you were born.

I offer Leonard's poem, because it describes so much about your work. Happy birthday!
God is alive, magic is afoot
by Leonard Cohen
God is alive, magic is afoot
God is alive, magic is afoot
God is afoot, magic is alive
Alive is afoot, magic never died
God never sickened
Many poor men lied
Many sick men lied
Magic never weakened
Magic never hid
Magic always ruled
God is afoot, God never died
God was ruler
Though his funeral lengthened
Though his mourners thickened
Magic never fled
Though his shrouds were hoisted
The naked God did live
Though his words were twisted
The naked magic thrived
Though his death was published
Round and round the world
The heart did not believe
Many hurt men wondered
Many struck men bled
Magic never faltered
Magic always lead
Many stones were rolled
But God would not lie down
Many wild men lied
Many fat men listened
Though they offered stones
Magic still was fed
Though they locked their coffers
God was always served
Magic is afoot, God is alive
Alive is afoot
Alive is in command
Many weak men hungered
Many strong men thrived
Though they boast of solitude
God was at their side
Nor the dreamer in his cell
Nor the captain on the hill
Magic is alive
Though his death was pardoned
Round and round the world
The heart would not believe
Though laws were carved in marble
They could not shelter men
Though altars built in parliaments
They could not order men
Police arrested magic and magic went with them
Mmmmm.... for magic loves the hungry
But magic would not tarry
It moves from arm to arm
It would not stay with them
Magic is afoot
It cannot come to harm
It rests in an empty palm
It spawns in an empty mind
But magic is no instrument
Magic is the end
Many men drove magic
But magic stayed behind
Many strong men lied
They only passed through magic
And out the other side
Many weak men lied
They came to God in secret
And though they left Him nourished
They would not tell who healed
Though mountains danced before them
They said that God was dead
Though his shrouds were hoisted
The naked God did live
This I mean to whisper to my mind
This I mean to laugh within my mind
This I mean my mind to serve
Til' service is but magic
Moving through the world
And mind itself is magic
Coursing through the flesh
And flesh itself is magic
Dancing on a clock
And time itself
The magic length of God

I've already told you in other places (like the Yearbook) how wonderful you are, so I'll keep this message short and just say happy birthday and many, many happy returns of the day. Please don't ever stop doing what you do best- writing magnificent music and shaking people out of their complacency, because there's no one else who can do either one quite like you do.

Lots of love and best of luck to you,

Jim, I've not been on the board as frequently as I have been in the past as I have a very busy life--please take comfort in realising that alot of us here do, but find your contributions so important to ours that we make the time to commit ourselves in ways to show you that we will always regard you as the revered source and wonderful person that you are. I sincerely hope that you enjoy the Yearbook--after 26 years entraptured with rock, I must say I've never encountered such die-hard fans as the ones you find twine its pages. Although perhaps not as widespread as you had fantisied, I truly think no fans could adore you more deeply--your "worship" and devoteds are truly unique in ways I think you'd want them to be. Many of us have been there for you since 1977--and we'll always have a debt to you to carry, even if (heaven forbid!!) you never compose another note.
All of my love and very best wishes for an awesome birthday--you are so loved....

"Happy," at the very least, but I think you can do better than that. Gorge yourself on Nocturnal Pleasures, if you can get'em wholesale. Try BJ's.
Looking very much forward to Karinne Hannah, and Tanz in NYC. I suppose we'll have to call it "Dance" once it gets here.
Thanks for it all.
