Thanks to all for a most excellent Steintrip!

Well, Ann and I are back in Berlin for one day before flying home tomorrow, and I just wanted to dole out a bundle of thank-yous to everyone who helped make this one of the best Steintrips ever!

To all the Steingang who joined us, both in Berlin and in Budapest: Markus and Antonina, Sandra, Will, William, Hennie, Laci and his lovely wife. Special thanks to Dave and Julie, who guided us to the best places to see, and for the loan of a cellphone to help us stay 'connected' and make sure we all got to the same place at pretty much the same time; to Brian, who inadvertently broke my fall when clumsy old me just happened to find and trip over the ONE pothole in the pavement in the posh shopping district of Budapest, and saved me from doing more damage to myself than just a couple of bruised knees; to Derya, who gave us the 'cook's tour' of all the best sites in Berlin, and helped guide us through the intracies of the Berlin public transportation system; and of course to my best Steinbuddy Ann, who surely got the short end of the stick by having to put up with me as a traveling companion; I am so glad for your company (I REALLY hate traveling alone, and your presence helped immensely!), and for your generosity. I always go into these trips severely underfunded and on the slimmest of shoestring budgets, and the Budapest taxi fares you generously sprung for saved us a lot of sweat and shoe leather! (And I DO apologize for taking us on that marathon trek on Sunday morning!) It was so great to have the opportunity to see everyone again, and hope it won't be too long before we all get to party together again;

To Steve Rinkoff, a real prince of a guy who treated us like visiting royalty in Budapest; gaining us entree to the after-show cast parties; paying for our drinks, introducing us to cast, crew, producers, and other luminaries; showering us with posters, cast photos, and other neat stuff; and generally making us feel SO welcome so far away from home.

To Vampirok Balja producer Edit Simon, who was so very gracious, and nice enough to call cabs for us so two middle-aged ladies didn't have to walk through some very rough parts of town to get back to our hotel at two in the morning;

To Gernot Kranner, the original Vienna Professor Abronsius, who was kind enough to spend time with us at the after-premiere party Saturday night, and regaled us with stories of how he almost passed up the role of a lifetime in Vienna (but, luckily for us all, didn't -- and the rest, as they say, is theatrical history...);

To all the cast and crew of Vampirok Balja, who (outside of a few props that refused to cooperate, and some scenery that tried to eat the actors) put on a pretty darn good show to equal or, in some cases, exceed the current and past productions we've seen. You surely earned your standing ovation and three curtain calls;

To cast members and Anna (Magda), who seemed thrilled that we enjoyed her performances so much, and Gabe (Koukol) who shared with us his secret theory that Koukol is actually Rebekah's illegitimate son, and therefore Sarah's half-brother (and who just missed getting gored by the scenery during Act 2);

To director Cornelius Baltos, for asking our frank opinion of the Berlin and Budapest productions, and who appeared sincerely interested in our comments;

And, again, to Ann ... just because I literally cannot thank her enough! :-)

And, finally, to Jim, for writing the gorgeous music that gives us the incentive to travel far and wide to see the various 'Tanz' productions around the world ...

I had a GREAT time, and I look forward to us all doing it again (perhaps in Holland or Belgium next time!)
