Dederich's Death, Article In probably one of the ugliest pictures taken of him in his life, he is shown here in the way that some people remember him, but Charles Dederich who founded and ran Synanon was without question a driving force in Thaya's and her family's, those immediate and extended, lives. One could also bring to orientation how that influence plays on the formation of the Rocky Horror Cult. I can't help but wonder what Thaya's family's lives would have been like in, say, Pennsylvania, or if they had a more ordinary life in California. But if what she told me was true, and who knows what is true, she and her family were able to leave Synanon in 1975/1976, which they said that they did. However, they were given their house in Santa Monica, which may still have belonged to Synanon. I met Thaya a few months after she said she had left Synanon, and her family was said to trail outwards from there after her departure, but all this is what was the most easy for her to tell. What Thaya has said as truth, versus what Thaya has said untrue, are things for sorting. The Liver Doctor idea, as she told me of it seemed like a good idea with the exception of the "Doctor" part. Why does she have to call herself "doctor" I asked, and she said, "People believe it if it comes from a doctor." Thaya had the ideas, and the insights, and is by no means an unintelligent person, but her directions were not those that I would choose either for myself or for her. Why people just don't want to listen to me I simply don't understand The Rocky Horror Cult is one that got out of hand from a fan club, from a successful venture to involve fans, which is what Thaya thought she was achieving. I've never seen Thaya be anything but pushy through her enthusiasm, and was not demanding as such. I don't think she could control an RC car. > > The articles about Synanon, and some history about > Synanon, can be found on the web to be either too > simplistic or too harsh, but somewhere in the middle is > the truth of that institution which raised Thaya, her two > siblings, and which her parents lived in throughout the > childrens' forming lives.
