Origins of Russell Watson "Is Nothing Sacred" recording

I remember a thread about this back when we had a black background.

The Russell Watson recording of "Is Nothing Sacred" is my favorite of them.

Anybody know details about the association between it and Steinman/Rinkoff?

What I remember reading is this. First, Russell Watson was working with Steinman/Rinkoff on a recording of the song. Once a mix was done, either Watson or his management or record label thought it was too overproduced or elaborate. Steinman wasn't able to give them a simple enough version, so they did their own simplified re-mix, which is what was released on Watson's CD. I had no idea if any of that is really true or not.

If you listen to it, you can hear some of the same stuff that is on the TDE myspace page with Rod Evans singing. It seems likely that some of that stuff originated with Steinman/Rinkoff.

Anybody have a more detailed account of it than that? If I am mistaken please point out where. Or can you point me to an article or interview that describes the Steinman connection to the recording?

If you want the mp3 here it is:
