Something akin to a reply to both posts:
The gloves are a really great dramatic device, and Jim wanted to do something that would be a little bit unique in show. He put together the Bolero pair of pairs of gloves thing, to be what days of yore folk called "schtick", and though this is the way he described it to me, there is also much more to it, I am certain, or has evolved.
Gloves are metaphoric on several levels, and I think of this sometimes, but I don't have the energy to go into that kind of thing now. I might think on it some more, though.
In the photos above, one of the Jims (thick neck, larger chest, grey hair, shorter stature and shorter arms) wears black gloves, and the other Jim (thinner neck, narrower chest, dark hair, taller in stature and longer arms) wears white gloves. Gloves hide the differences between their hands, where Big Jim has shorter fingers with longer nails and Jim C. has longer fingers and shorter nails. White for one, black for the other, a symbolic difference is all, but if one wants to delve into symbologies, they will have to do so themselves here or just wait until I am feeling better.
I know that whatever I would have to say on the subject is not really anywhere as simple as Jim had thought, it would just be my poetic inclination.
