| From AOL UK entertainment news: Rock legend Meat Loaf has vowed the show must go on, his tour promoters said. Fans feared he may have sung his last note in public after he walked off stage, telling an audience of thousands: "This is the last show I may ever do in my life." The Bat Out Of Hell singer was 70 minutes into the show at Newcastle's Metro Arena, during which his voice seemed weaker than usual. He sang the first line of Paradise By The Dashboard Light, then according to the Newcastle-based Evening Chronicle newspaper, he announced: "I can no longer continue. I take my coat off and thank you for 30 years." A doctor was summoned and the 60-year-old, born Marvin Lee Aday, was diagnosed as suffering from exhaustion and urged to rest. The rocker resumed the European leg of the Three Bats Tour in the middle of last month, and the next date was scheduled to be Friday night at Birmingham's NEC. His promoters issued a brief statement via the venue insisting the show must go on. It said: "As far as we are concerned the show in Birmingham is on as planned." The Newcastle Metro Arena marketing manager Paul Tappenden said: "He was suffering from severe strain and he has been told he has been overdoing things a bit. He is feeling a lot better today." Some fans were disappointed about the 70-minute show, but many were more concerned about the singer's health, he said. Fans will not be offered a refund by the promoters, Mr Tappenden said, but that was not a matter for the venue to resolve. A concert-reviewer on the last.fm website said Meat Loaf looked tired and his voice seemed much weaker than usual. The fan wrote: "Unfortunately a minute into Paradise By The Dashboard Light things took a turn for the worst and he could not carry on. He left the stage wishing everyone well and thanking them for coming to what is the last ever Meat Loaf gig. If this is true then thanks for all the years of rock 'n' roll you have given us and may your retirement be long and happy." | |
