Jim must be mourning the demise of his best student.

I find Meat Loaf to be one of the most exciting performers ever. But only when he is doing Jim's songs. Sometimes I put him in the same category as Elvis but Elvis worked successfully with many different songwriters. For some strange reason, Meat Loaf can't function as a superstar with other writers. He needs Jim.

It's not just the Steinman songs that he needs. Or Bat 3 would have worked (and thinking it was only the songs he needed was a major miscalculation by Meat).

He needs Jim's guidance. Nobody understands Meat like Jim does. Jim taught him how to become a superstar. With his voice, his hair, his ruffled shirts, his sweat wiping. The whole Meat Loaf package was designed by Jim.

But Meat Loaf was an excellent student and he will always be remembered as someone who was an exciting performer. Almost as exciting as Elvis.

Without Bat Out Of Hell he would have done okay. Maybe he would have got some minor rolls on Broadway or been offered a few commercials. He would have done something. But not much in comparison.
