Okay, as well as the Steinfan dinner party with Jim, which would be wonderful but involves more thna 9 people, I'd go for...
(in no particular order)
1) Jim Steinman (obviously)
2) Wagner (for Jim)
3) Florence Nightingale (invented modern nursing but also very no-nonsense kick-ass woman who had half the war office* in Britain running round following her orders for large chunks of the 19th century)
4) Napoleon Bonaparte (because I sort of fancy him, and anyway, I've never met anyone who's invaded Eastern Europe before)
5) JRR Tolkein (Wrote "Lord of the Rings". I always felt he must have been enjoyably nuts)
6) Queen Boadicia (Queen of the Iceni tribe, who fought off the invading Roman army in Iron Age Britain. Would probably get on well with Florence Nightingale and I don't want us girls to be too outnumbered.)
7) The Buddha (I'm not actually a Buddist, I just think he sounds really interesting. Also I appear to have invited rather a heavy contingent of mad militaristic dictators and I think it would be important to have someone there to teach them to calm down and meditate a bit more.)
8) Sir Patrick Moore (Famous 80+ yr old British TV Astronomer) - Always good for a laugh. Have had dinner with him before and it took me a good hour to scrub the curry off his kitchen wall afterwards!**
9) Genghis Khan (in case it inexplicably got boring)
Of course it wouldn't actually be as much fun without some friends along to share all these people with... so ideally this would be combined with the Steinfan dinner party so we could all meet them together!

*They called a spade a spade in the 19th century. Nowadays the department is called "The Ministry of Defence" (and spends large amounts of its time "defending" the country by dropping bombs on people several thousand miles away)
