| Here's the better view: Sonnenberg misjudged the situation so Paula got to make way, way less money this year than she would have if he'd played his hand well; he could have always negotiated a situation where she might be able to leave after one year with smaller penalties than what he ended up getting her, which was thrown out on her rear without any compensation and no deal with anyone. The *rumored* opportunity on American X Factor is probably the result of Paula's past work on American Idol and not Sonnenberg's relationships. Heck, Steven, I think you could probably pitch Paula as the answer to making X-Factor the reunion of America's favorite pop judges and a return to the glory years of Idol. Even though, it wasn't Sonnenberg's schmoozing that *might* get her the job, he'll still end up taking around 30% of her entertainment-related income. Bottom line: She'd be better without him. I'm tempted to explain in-depth why people like Sonnenberg have destroyed rock 'n' roll, but the truth is that I don't care that much about rock 'n' roll and even less about Paula Abdul. Sonnenberg can make it up to me by working his tail off to provide Jim with opportunities that will give us more original Steinman recordings without requiring Jim to stress his body or integrity. Until he does that, he better not be taking a dime of Jim's money and he better not be contributing to the idea that Jim needs to bet everything on musical theater in the same tone he told Paula to hold out for more money. -=John Galt=- ... who realizes that deprivation of new Steinmusic can turn him into a grumpy guy... -=John Galt=- > A lot of people thought that Jim's manager David > Sonnenberg screwed things up for Paula Abdul by failing to > renegotiate her contract with American Idol but now we > hear that Simon Cowell is also leaving American Idol and > that Paula Abdul is the bookmakers favourite to join him > as a judge on the new American X Factor that Simon is > starting.
