I first heard the earlier one that is credited to Jim but with Rory Dodd on lead vocals. Terry Wogan played it on Radio 2. I heard it in a hardware shop when I was feeling down but it lifted my spirits and made me feel happy and energetic. So I would have to say that the original is my favourite version. However, I love Jim's production on Meat Loaf's later Bat 2 version. It is also uplifting. It's interesting that the video for Meat's version gave Angelina Jolie her first big break in show business. I'm not sure what I think of the version that is on the special edition of "BOOH: The Melbourne Symphony Recording." I don't really like the arrangements. From Wikipedia: ""Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through" is, according to music website Sputnik Music, a celebration of "music being the only thing left to believe in, it is a cry to the musical Gods, thanking them for the gifts they have been given." Similarly, All Music describes the song as "a heart-tugging testament to the inspirational power of rock & roll."" I can't believe the original version didn't do better in the charts. Again, from Wikipedia: ""Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through" was released as a single, reaching 14 in the Mainstream Rock chart, and number 32 in the Pop Singles chart." If Jim had been given better billing on Bat One, I think it may have been a number one hit. It is, after all, a brilliant recording. | |
