| Recently I had the chance to listen to HCTB in London. Whereas many of Meats/Jims trademarks are still there (massive vocals and bg vocals, big melodies, bombast, at least some keyboards) the sum of it sounds way different to anything he released before. Whereas there are rockers and ballads, duetts and an orchestra, much of it is dominated by agressive, guitar-driven, modern, heavy stuff. The songs very rarely follow the path you would expect. No ABABCB structures, not Jims way of building them either. I had two Jim references: The song written by Bon Jovi and his team sounds very close to material BJ has written before. And I concluded the day with seeing Love Never Dies/Phantom II by another of Jims ex, ALW. MM | |
