The latest issue of Fireworks magazine contains an interview with former Meat Loaf pianist Mark Alexander ahead of the release of his solo album, Sanctuary. One of the questions he was asked may be of interest.
Q: Playing Jim Steinman's music must be a dream come true for a pianist?
A: He lives about 10 minutes from me and we just became friends on Facebook. I hadn't heard from him for ages. The piano parts were one of the things that appealed to me the most when I got the call the first time for Meat Loaf in 1989. The thing that really appealed to me was the piano aspect. I felt I was being pigeon-holed in New York as a cutting edge synth programmer doing funk with Little Steven. It was the funkiest thing he had done; it was like a Prince record. Before that, I had worked with some R&B artists, I loved the technology and playing that style but I am a classically traine dpianist. I really wanted to get back to my roots and play piano, that's what appealed to me playing for Meat Loaf.
