| Oh. Jacob. You are also editor and executive producer as well as writer. That's cool. Why did you decide not to direct this time? The opening music is very effective. It works very well with the camera following the girl as she walks down the old narrow streets. You said you did a voice cameo. Was it the impressive lines: "Lonliness craves lonliness and I could really see that she was just that. Just lonely. Had I found her at last? She who could make my curse her gift. In my still heart I knew, she was my destiny." Even if it wasn't your voice, you wrote that, so well done. I think Jim would think those lines are really cool. Only one minute in and already you have created an interesting story with the unseen person behind the voice watching the girl that the camera has been following. Then black and white changes to colour and we are introduced to Jade and Emma, who are sisters. It sounds like a man's voice says "Jade" just before her sister says: "Jade I'm home". Jade is obviously a bit disturbed about something. Emma trys to be friendly but Jade is not very interested. Jade sits on the floor of her room and refuses to let Emma in. The actress playing Jade is very good. Oh my goodness. The tension that started with the unseen voice observing the girl walking along the streets suddenly comes back as we get our first look at the vampire! At first he is leaning over a collapsed girl but then he raises his head and there is blood coming out of his mouth. It is obvious that he is a vampire. So far, the director has done a really great job (also you the writer and the two editors - who are both of you, as you know). The vampire manages to clean the blood from his mouth and begs for help just as Jade is walking towards him. She lends the vampire her phone. I like the way that you and James have set this meeting between Jade and the vampire up. The first scene and the second scene are totally relevant to the third scene. The next scene is in the hospital. The vampire's victim is still alive and Jade is present with the vampire. She has now been drawn into the vampire's world. I like the way the scene is written when Jade leaves the bed area to take a phone call. The vampire apologises and tells his unconscious victim that she is beautiful and that she was just in the wrong place. This is a bit creepy and actually quite different from other screen vampires that I have seen. Perhaps we could say that your vampire is unique. Then he puts his hand on the victim's forehead to make her forget what happened and there is a really gory flashback to him biting the victim. Full marks to James' direction and also to the editing. As the scene ends we see Jade secretly filming the vampire talking to his victim. Oh my goodness. What will this mean? Cool script writing. The music is just right. It helps to build the tension. Then it continues as Jade follows the vampire after they leave the hospital. Who was in charge of the music? Muisc is very important to horror. Like the music for "Psycho". Gosh. I can't believe that Jade had the guts to go to the vampire's house. The blood smeared on the door lets the audience know exactly whose door she is knocking on. She is looking around, the creepy very suitable music is playing and then suddenly the vampire appears. Its a bit scary. He says: "This is my house." She replies: "I didn't know dead people needed houses." Again, really good writing. Its an amazingly brilliant twist that Jade wants the vampire to turn her into a vampire. That is such a cool idea. Surely this could be developed into a feature length film. The vampire is already different than any vampire I can remember seeing and now a potential victim is also unique. And she attacks him! More power to you and James. In the next scene Emma reads a letter that Jade has left her. We learn the significance of Emma saying that she and Jade should go to visit her Mum in the second scene. The Mum is dead and Emma must have meant visiting the grave. Emma has tried to be a mother to Jade but Jade says in the letter that its not working because she remembers that the Mum is dead and she says that it is going to kill her one day. Jade is basically saying goodbye and asks Emma not to look for her. This is very tight writing. The letter directly links this scene back to the second scene and makes Emma a more important character. Although Jade is not gone from Emma's life. She turns up on the doorstep with blood smeared over her mouth area. Emma manages to get her in and lies her on the couch. She is very worried because Jade is so cold. Then we hear a heart beating and the screen goes black. We can only hear Emma's voice saying: "Get off me. Get off me now!" Then Emma screams. This is a chilling end to the film and I think that both you and James deserve a lot of credit for it. I would love to see this turned into a feature length film. I am really pleased that it won the Audience Award For Best Film. Well done. | |
