| First off, my promised Batman song 'Dancing With The Joker In The Pale Moonlight' will have to wait a bit longer (maybe May/June time). Sorry for delay, but in the meantime here is the other new song I mentioned.....'(All Aboard) The Neverland Express'. It's a demo, done quickly (as usual) over two and a bit days, and needs a ton of work, but it's a decent demo to give you an idea. This was specifically written as the opening number to a Meat Loaf concert and/or concept album, with the working title 'Dreams Of Neverland'. There isn't a specific storyline to the concept (yet), more individual snapshots, visions or dreams.....of Neverland. The lyrics are sung from two parallel view points. Firstly it is Meat singing to everyone in the audience (or every listener), about getting revved up & excited for the gig (or album) to come. The lyric is basically saying 'trust me & the band (TNE), and you will have a great time'. Alternatively, Meat is actually Peter Pan and every audience member (or listener) is Wendy, and he's trying to persuade you to fly to Neverland with him. The lyrics work from both view points. The first part of the spoken word is based on dialect from Peter Pan...'you see, Wendy, when the first baby laughed for the first time, its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies'. This should explain the baby laughing in the background (which is actually my daughter at 16 months). Here is how I envisage the concert staging: Meat would be dressed as Peter Pan, and every member of the band would be in costume and have a relevant name (eg - the female singer would be 'Wendy'). The stage would be dressed to reflect a traditional or futuristic Neverland, with a large video screen (across the back of the stage) projecting relevant images (eg - images of a train similar to The Polar Express would be shown during this opening number). There would also be a 'Hook' character who would come out for several songs ('Renegade Angel' / 'More' / 'Who Needs The Young?'), as well as Wendy having two solo spots ('Faster Than The Speed Of Night' / 'Loving You's A Dirty Job...' ), and two ensemble pieces for the band ('Beware Of The Hook' / 'All Revved Up...'). BTW - 'Renegade Angel' and 'Beware Of The Hook' are songs I've written (but not demoed). The idea being that Meat would not have to do the whole gig, which would hopefully help his vocals (on what he does sing). This opening number would start with a tape playing the baby laughing and then a band member (centre stage) doing the spoken word monologue (images appear on the screen to match the words...motorcycles, wolves, fire, crashing waves etc, whilst the whole venue is bathed in a Northern Lights effect). As the piano intro starts, Meat comes out and starts prowling the stage left and right, pointing, shouting, basically revving the audience up. During the 'Last Call' section of the song, images appear on the screen to match the lyrics.....lost boys (Jim Steinman), golden girls (Betty White - joke), renegades (Steve McQueen), rebels (James Dean) etc. As the song ends, the piano riff segues perfectly into the 'Faster Than The Speed Of Night' riff, and that becomes Wendy's 'response' to the opening song from Peter. She's been persuaded to go to Neverland and 'I don't want to let another minute get by...' is just a perfect opening line! Meat (Peter) remains on stage fixated, as Wendy sings 'Faster...' to him. Halfway through the song, Meat joins in as it becomes a duet. I've sketched out a whole gig, which includes 'Heaven Can Wait' as a duet (with the wedding vows), 'I'll Kill You If You Don't Come Back' (with lyrical tweaks), ends (perfectly) with 'What Part Of My Body Hurts The Most?' (Meat & Wendy entwined) and encores with 'Bat Out Of Hell', which is a slight departure from the theme, but expected. Anyways have a listen and hope you enjoy. Suggest you use headphones and turn it up loud! I will post lyrics on separate message. | |
