Great news! I'm very happy for Jim. He should have been inducted years ago but better late than never...It's great to see that Jimmy Webb is involved in this event (he's probably my favorite songwriter after Jim) because I know Jim is a fan of his. Hopefully he introduces Jim with praising words...

There are songwriters, there are good songwriters, there are great songwriters, but as far as I'm concerned there is only one GENIUS songwriter and that is Jim Steinman. His gorgeously epic music and poetic, witty, impassioned lyrics are a totally unique combination. The hardest thing in popular music is to have your own, identifiable sound/style and Jim is one of the few who has it. When you look at the quality of his body of work from the seventies to recent years it is unparalleled in my opinion. He may not be as prolific writer as other songwriters but when he releases a song it always still has that Steinman quality in it, in my opinion.

I don't know any artists that have been in the music business as long as Jim has been and have constantly put out only quality material out year after year like Jim has done, and still continue to do so. Jim's totally in the league of his own for me. Some music writers have expressed my thoughts about Jim's music very aptly so I'll end my post with two of my favorite descriptions of Jim's music.

"If God made albums, they would probably sound a lot like Steinman's" -NME

"Nobody writes like Jim Steinman: he is perhaps the lost genius of pop, stranded -lamentably unlauded - in a world of rock with opera's attitude, where life has stopped at the point of adolescence that childhood dreams are shattered. It's how 'soul' music should have turned out: every chorus is like losing your virginity , every verse is like killing your parents. It's as if Phil Spector and Richard Wagner were making records together,"
-Q Magazine 1993

"Soul Music". Music that touches the listener's soul. That's a perfect description of Jim's music.

So, thank you Jim for touching my soul with your music ever since 1993.

Your fan..."until the end".

Jan
