| Yeah, I think Roy Orbison would have done justice to a Steinman song; some of his songs like 'It's Over' were very dramatic. The man had a great voice... I wish Jim had continued working more with Rory Dodd after 'Bad For Good'. A full Jim & Rory album with 'A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste' as the first single... Steinman/Savatage collaboration circa 1990, in the 'Guttter Ballet' era, when Chris Oliva was still alive, would have been interesting. I always think 'Gutter Ballet' as being a very Steinmanesque song "if Jim ever decided to do a metal song with big riffs and bombast". That's how I imagine Jim's metal song would sound like (haunting piano intro, exploding sounds, huge riffs etc.)'When The Crowds Are Gone' is another great epic ballad in the style quite similar to Jim's with its piano/guitar/epic coda structure. Would have loved to have seen Jim working with Scott Walker (a great singer)in the seventies on his early solo albums. I think Michael Ball did a great job with 'Unsettled Scores'. I like his voice and dramatic singing style. Would like to see him recording more of Jim's songs. Finally, I'd have like to have seen what would have happened if Jim had produced one Pixies song in the early nineteens... | |
