Well, I've kept this down for some time but I thought I might as well come out and say it.

Last year my musical got produced over here in Victoria, Australia. The composer and I met with a brilliant venue manager who ended up producing the show through the city's community arts grants program. We were the first to receive this particular grant.

Last year was pretty stressful for me. I lost my good friend in January and I still think about her all the time. I found out the night of our first meeting that year to discuss the production. I almost walked away but with the advice of my friends I mustered up the courage and went ahead.

We got a director. We held about three auditions and ended up with a cast of seven leading players and a chorus of five who alternated in a lot of different parts so they always had something to do (I thought from my own experience I wouldn't have wanted to have been a walk on. I like doubling characters.) I also ended up scoring one of the plays that my director had written for the Winter Solstice but they were vocal soundscapes. That was the first time I ever heard my work performed in a live stage production. What a thrill.

I also ended up being cast in the musical and we started rehearsals three months before opening. We ended up doing four shows, three nightly and one matinee (and I had two shows in one day and I was dealing with my third cold. I don't know how I got through it and nobody seemed to notice anything.)

Opening Night surely would have to be the greatest night of my entire life. And so many people were there. It was just unbelievable. We had really good crowds, even the matinee, which was a boiling hot day in an Australian summer. The review was awesome and we ended up being nominated for two Virtual Oscars, one of which I won. It was a fabulous time and I'll always remember it and treasure it dearly.

I just wish something else would happen... and this is the part where Jim's music becomes an awesome soundtrack yet again. Oh thank you Jim for everything :-)
