What are you using to play it? I use VLC and also Nero Showtime. Both play these files without problem. I know that Quicktime is a bit hit-and-miss with mp4s.
VLC is available from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/, for Windows and Linux and Macs. It's free and it works and is highly recommended.
