Well, in the immortal words of Popeye the Sailor Man, uhoouhooh blow me down......! In 1978, the Bat Out Of Hell tour, recorded at New York's Nassau Coliseum (a show I wanted to go to but didn't attend), is these two gems, and guess what? Oh come on you can guess.......A Leitmotif!!!! (a recycle to some of the circular heads around here). Jim's performance of "More Than You Deserve" has in this recording a much smoother vocal than the other one that I heard recently from a share, and some of the melody on the keyboard is a little more intricate and defined in this version as well. Of the two, this is the stronger performance in my opinion, in every way. Then the labeling of the recording collection says that something is Todd Rundgren performing, and I nearly overlooked it entirely. But I figured, I'd play it and see what it is. It is an instrumental adaptation of "More Than You Deserve", apparently being called "Just One Victory" and during this, Meat breaks in and introduces Todd who plays a lead guitar over the band's support as the melody continues. Halfway down the length of the song, the melody changes to some other melody, while Todd's guitar continues. I wonder, does anyone know if that particular melody that takes the second half of this performance, has shown up so far on any other songs? It could actually be considered a "More Than You Deserve" that spans 8 minutes with the first half vocal, and the second half instrumental. What do you think? It seems like the songs could have been played like that, one running into the other with the only divider being the ooooowoooowooo's that Jim ends the vocals with, at the end of the song....but there is not any indication of the beginning of the other segment..the recording cuts into it.
