I'm glad we're talking about this, I've noticed it for a while nw :o).
It's certainly not the most difficult of his songs to sing, in my estimation, but you're right of course that no one could call it 'easy'. And you may be onto something about him "saving" himself for it.
I've kinda sometimes thought maybe it's all in the mind. maybe he can do it because he knows deep down inside that he just HAS to. I mean, it's HIS song. When he's 65 it'll be the one number he comes out to do at an awards show. He just has no other choice than to learn how to do it REAL good.
