The BBC doesn't seem to care all that much about Eurovision, but that's a whole other story.
I agree with your suggestions about a different production style with a faster tempo and more guitars - which is what I was expecting when the first chorus kicked in!
It contains the lines "the minutes and the seconds of your life go crawling by" - which I feel is just asking for it...!
It's not unheard of for songs to get reworked before the event - last years Belarussian entry and even Dima Bilan's Believe from 2008 spring to mind and I'm sure there are others.
They should have asked Jim to produce it, that's all ;)
