I wouldn't call it awful, just awfully disappointing.
Going All The Way, Dirty Job and Tongues are amazing. More is ok, but not as good as the Sisters Of Mercy version. The other songs are a load of old tat that should have stayed in whatever dusty drawer Jim has hidden them in for 40 years. I assume any good 'new' songs are under contract to the musical?
I was really looking forward to this when it was first announced, and then incredibly deflated once the track list was revealed. In my opinion the old songs just aren't good enough and there is a reason they've remained unused for so long, even by the master recycler.
Meat's voice isn't the best, but even if he could still sing the way he did in 1977, I doubt it would make Godz worth listening to.
Overall the CD is worth the money for the three songs I like as they are fantastic, but the rest is a colossal disappointment.
Hell In A Handbasket with old Steinman songs is a good description for this album, only most of the songs from Handbasket are better.
'Be careful what you wish for' is an apt phrase I guess?
