You're certainly not in the minority. A lot of the reviews and chat surrounding this album that I've read on music forums convey the same sentiment.

I've posted a link below to the review from MelodicRock.com which to my mind is pretty accurate assessment. He gives it a score of 35%.
Still, it's immeasurably better than Hell in a Handbasket!
