| Holding out for a hero was the first time I experienced it as well. I hated it, it was awful. Not because I'm against the recycling per se, just because I really loved (and still love) Stark raving Love. I think it's a great melody, groovy lyrics, excellent vocal by Jim and the fucking AWESOME guitar outro by Davey Johnstone (Elton's guitarist, was working with Meat and Alice Cooper at the time when Elton was doing various things sans Taupin and his regular band, tghat's the readers' digest version anyways). And then Holding out for a hero was so... so... shit. It's boring, the melody is hard to pick and remember and teh production is thin, uninspired and monotonous. The ONLY thing it had going for it was that it shaamelessly stole the piano riff from a far superior song, so all in all it had an adverse effect on me. Obviously I've warmed to the concept of recycling, but I still hate Hero. > > ... heard a piece by Steinman recycled in another song? > The first experience I had was discovering "Holding Out > For A Hero" which had the same opening riff as "Stark > Raving Love". I thought it was amusing. Plus I really > liked how "Lost Boys" was reprised in "Stark". Ever since > then, it's become part of the Steinman tradition.
