I have found the code quality, at least in terms of security, to be much better overall in Vista than Mac OS X 10.4. It is obvious from observing affected components in security patches that Microsoft’s Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) has resulted in fewer vulnerabilities in newly-written code. I hope that more software vendors follow their lead in developing proactive software security development methodologies." > The fact of the matter is, in the real world, I am less > likely to get a virus on my computer. Once it's installed, I don't consider it time consuming at all. Firewall and scanner do run in the background. I never open attachments of e-mails whose sender I don't know - if it even makes it through the spam filter that runs on the server. Course I could also try to run DOS 6 + Win3.11. Guess I could go online with that combination too without protection and no virus would find me. Likely they'd be too embarassed to infect 3.11. > You say that > Apple and Linux machines will not run the programs you > need to run, so that is the end-all for you in terms of > selection. It does come down to software selection. Stuff I use daily won't run on either of the two competitors, if you find alternatives on either Mac or Linux and you prefer those to giving money to Microsoft, ok. > And so, we're both happy with our selections. Right? Yep. | |
