I don't know why so much emphasis is placed on the supporting personnel on an album, to this extent. But when Wilbury, you said you didn't google, I curiously did try some searching to see what would come up if you had...and guess what? Nuthin! But, I was looking for both names Lorraine Crosby and Meat Loaf. When I reduced the parameter to "Lorraine Crosby" I found her website. On her website I found her bio, with her spin of course of the events being discussed on the board today. I don't know why they are being discussed, but here it is.

Of her association with Steinman, she gives him credit for being that pinnacle of opportunity she found which led to her career accomplishments. Quoted from http://www.mrsloud.co.uk/bio.htm:

In 1986 she met Stuart Emerson, her partner now of nearly 20 years. They went on to support Status Quo among others. They started to develop their writing skills with the help of platinum producer Pip Williams. Then came the biggest break though - one of their demo tapes was sent to Jim Steinman, writer and producer Bat Out Of Hell. He heard their tape and called them from New York telling Lorraine "she was the best female vocalist he had ever heard" and the song's were fantastic. They soon signed management to Jim Steinmans Management company Arrested Development.

They sold up everything and moved to America. Whilst in Los Angeles they were invited to Ocean Way recording Studios to meet the people recording Bat Out Of Hell 2. Jim asked Lorraine to sing the Female Lead on a demo. She did and six months later the vocal comp made it on to the final cut. They tried several other singers but they couldn't capture what was done on the demo. The song 'I would do anything for Love' reached no 1 in 28 country's all over the world, it was to be Meat Loafs only no 1 record. While in LA Jim managed to get Lorraine and Stu a recording contract with MCA in USA.

Recording started in the Power Station Studios in New York. They completed 50% of the album then moved over to LA to be with Jim Steinman. As the album reached its final stages, Meat Loafs album Bat Out of Hell 2 was released. Reports that it had gone 2 million over budget raggedly caused the 2 A+R men who signed Meat Loaf and also Lorraine and Stu to be fired. Any signed acts were dropped by MCA, so at that point Lorraine and Stu had no choice but to return to the UK with no album no money. Anything for Love reached number 1 worldwide with a model miming to Lorraine's voice in the video.

A&R men are supposed to control the purse strings of a production, and the fact that this project was over budget by that amount was the justification for their firing, however, considering the success of Bat Out Of Hell, the execs could as easily patted their reps on the backs for being visionaries and pushed the marketing on the project. Moguls will be moguls, though.

There is a reasonable assumption that certain things could have taken place: If Crosby were not heavily steeped in the recording of her own album, she could have been available for Jim in the studio to do more fluid vocals to Meat Loaf's for the final...apparently, however, what she had put down was good enough and they used it. Also, if she had stayed in Los Angeles, she could have been placed in the video and gotten compensation for that. Either way there was a considerable benefit to her for her time working with and under the auspices of Steinman, which had greater potential than it reached.
