| This doesn't answer your question, but I honestly feel that there are enough Jim Steinman projects and performers. If all of his current projects die and fail, I don't think I will feel disappointed. They sound like they include a lot of re-packaging of stuff that's already released anyway. It would be nice for the world if the newer songs like Body, Children and NATL are on a major release at some point, but that can be achieved in many different ways. You don't need a big project to deliver them, they could be fed one-by-one onto movie soundtracks or to major artists. And if they are not released, I still got to hear them, so it's not me who will have missed out. It's just that Jim has covered every type of song and project that I would have wanted him to write. I was thinking of what my answer to this thread might be, and all of the things that popped into my head were similar to things he's done already. I guess the only answer I can think of would be to write a bunch of new songs, and then put Steinman-produced studio recordings of them on anything. My tendency as a Steinman listener is to become attached to the song itself, and not to the project or performer. I'm not really into projects or performers, just songs. If anything I tend to see the project or performer as a limitation on the songs, a necessary evil, and there hasn't been any project or performer that I considered entirely worthy of the songs. As long as they are songs I like. And as long as the recordings are not dance/techno style. Must be in the normal Steinman style, comparable to albums like Pandora's Box or Bat 2, in terms of how much real vs. fake instruments. And the songs can't have political lyrics. No profanity in the lyrics. There would have to be recordings, it's can't be a live-only project. If it's a musical that's fine, as long as there's a cast album. In my mind, it would be the nature of the songs that dictates what kind of project or performer would best try to serve them. And since I'm postulating he would write new songs I don't know about yet, I couldn't say what kind of project would be best for them. An OK idea might be to take these new songs, and pump them one-by-one onto movie soundtrack albums, transposed onto scenes that fit what the song is about. That way you can get your song selling without the hassles of having to develop an artist or project, or to deal with the hassles of an already developed artist or project. So that's my answer. Write new a new song, and then go find a movie scene and studio singing voice that is right for it. | |
