Until You Feel The Hook

Been a while since I've made a lengthy post of sorts.

I often spend my time writing songs. Most become some hybrid of Stephen Jenkins and Justin Currie sounding tunes.

Almost a year ago, starting as a fun exercise, I decided to write a tune in the vein of Steinman. Not trying to mimic something he's written, but more inspired by. After Jim shared a potential song for The Music Cycle, and since Scaramouche and few others share their words, why not throw my hat in. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

The setting: A Streets of Fire-esque city. Wendy, the lonely girl, still a little bright eyed. Hook, envision a dastardly pimp, running the underbelly, ruling the night.

This was the first time writing a duet, or anything like this for that matter.

The song starts with a female vocal. To cut down on some length I put a "/" in front of the parts sung by a male.

Until you feel the hook

I run. When I feel your icy hands around my neck, I run
Run, I run. When I feel your steely stare, it’s just piercing through me now

Am I the only one alone tonight?
I know you’re calling for me, but there’s really no one else to pick up, anyways
Am I the only one who won’t give up my tears?
That’s what you came here for. And I’ve known about your ones before me

You called for me
I’ve never felt never this much before in my life
Then you came for me
I thought my brothers and sisters weren’t enough
And I followed you
Never came much quicker than I’d ever planned

Run, I run. When I feel that icy collar clamping tight around, I run
Run. /She’ll run. When she feels my sword pressing up behind her now
/She’ll cry, scream, and scurry. Like the ones I had before her
/It’s music to me, plus it’s fun for the crew
/I called for you, and I came for you
/To make you feel the Hook
/You will feel the Hook

/Run, she’ll run. And he’ll come soon
/Damned little boy. To set right my bads
/My list of faults are endless by now.
Remember my love
/Not all boys are lost
/Not all men get theirs
/And the girls stay lonely
/And the heavens don’t care

/Now why don’t you step into my world?
/And learn to love the Hook
/And love to feel my wrath
/It’s burning up inside you now
/And live to please the Hook
/And embrace all this never.
/And learn to know your place
/I came for you. That’s what I do.
/Scare the boys and whisper to you
/Till the demon opens his jaws, listen
/Hear the big tick-tock
/The time has passed
/And it’s only a matter of now

/And learn to need the Hook
/And all your girls will take a bow
/Well, you wouldn’t know right now
/But I’m sure to show you how
/Wait until you feel the Hook
/Until you feel the Hook

/Will that boy come for you?
/Will he come packing?
/Will I be dancing that plank to meet my friend, fate?
/remember my words, you know them as true
/Not all boys are lost
(you called for me)
/Not all men get theirs
(you came for me)
/And the girls stay lonely
(I followed you)
/And Heaven still doesn’t care

/And Run
I run. When I see what you’re up to tonight, run
I run. My window was open and you crawled inside it
Am I fair game? Are you making me your prey?
Praying for the first time in my life
/Until you feel the Hook
Am I the only one alone tonight?
/You will feel the Hook
I’ll be the only one to never give tears to you
Praying for a better boy tonight, to put an end to you

/Run, Wendy, Run. I’ll be coming soon
