Melodramatic pap is probably an accurate description.
This album by Springsteen is like a Chinese takeaway with cheese on it, it tastes disgusting, even though there's nothing wrong with the cheese. But you take that cheese and put it into a Jim song, which are often described as cheesy, then it tastes delicious.
