You're a writer, right? How much experience have you had writing professionally? Have you pursued publishers? Have you done readings and workshops or demos or anything like that? Look at Jim's list. How many "broken promises" can you count there? And yet you obviously feel devoted to Jim because you've created a whole website around his musical...
I dont see them as "broken promises" or "promises". I dont see writing and hoping to publish or broadcast anything as a "promise" because it's all just fickle. It's a dream that occasionally becomes reality, if you're lucky. I don't associate that with a promise, especially not a broken one. If you do, well there's Jim's list.
With that said, I don't see how that affects you personally?
