What people are willing to accept from Meat as good is sad compared to what they would accept from someone who hadn't been great at one time. I loved Meat's voice prior to 1978... and Jim managed to make him sound good on Bat 2 (apparently 57 takes for the first line of IDAFL)though he sounded lousy live. I don't want to listen to a mediocre singer just because he was great once.
