| I think you are quite wrong about this actually. All these song writers you mentioned (especially Dylan and Springsteen) have had COUNTLESS of covers done of their songs. There is a HUGE difference here I think. We as fans are concentrating on all this karaoke / rehash stuff as THAT IS THE ONLY THING there is at this stage. When was the last Steinman album released? I can't even remember. And in fact the only latest Full album released by Steinman as a writer or producer that I own is Bat 2 (1993) and even that consisted for a large part out of rehashing whereas from both Dylan and Springsteen I own numerous albums from the 2000s but I am still a fan. Dylan, young and Springsteen are constantly churning out new music and doing endless tours whether you like them or not. As far as X factor goes, it's always the same songs and perhaps Total Eclipse does belong in that type of category along with "I will always love you" etc. Surely that is a good thing... > What I am saying is quite different. I am saying that Neil > Young, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen... don't allow > thousands of different versions of their songs go out and > even some from one person like Bonnie Tyler. This > devalues Steinman's product, as we have the Choir version, > the album version, the duet version, the love song > version, the commercial ad version, the X Factor Karaoke > version... This is pure crap and it annoys me that > Steinman will not allow anyone to do a theatrical > production of his music which will ad context to his > lyrics which are very visual, this is totally off limits > but for himself, but allows all this other stuff to > devalue his lyrics and inspiration.
