| I first heard about this show when Dave posted about it in the "Marks Out Of Tenor" thread. He wrote: "This has to be the most bizarre TV show line-up ever invented ... a celebrity reality show with pop singers learning to sing opera, hosted by a gardening presenter and judged by Meat Loaf and an interior designer ..." When I read that I thought the show was going to be awful and I wrote that it sounded like "a rather sill singing competition". But I have just finished watching it and I would like to take back what I said. I was amazed by how well the so-called popstars did when it came to singing opera. I didn't think they would be able to learn operatic technique in such a short time. Jimmy Osmond has come a long way since he got to number one with "Long Haired Lover From Liverpool". Meat Loaf looked in very good shape. In my opinion, he was the best part of the show. I'm not sure if I like his short haircut but that's not important. Thirty years after The Old Grey Whistle Test he is still making television work for him in the UK. Like when he guest starred in an episode of "House" recently. He may have all sorts of problems but the guy has guts and he keeps on going. | |
