I agree - overall it was a very good production: I actually prefer "The Tribe" to "Charlie and Annie Christmas" so I'm on board with that.
I think the choreographer (who I notice is also the associate director) may have been taking something a bit spacey. It looked in places as though some of the warm up exercises from rehearsals had somehow accidentally made it onto the stage. I got what they were trying to say with the whole dancing zombie thing but the effect when it was actually done on stage was out of keeping with the feel of the rest of the production. Also, the bit, just after "Vaults of Heaven" where the cast all laid their hands on and surrounded the three children in a sort of triangle formation looked like something from a college drama project rather than a professional musical.
The basic problem was that there were too many bits that *looked* choreographed when they should have looked natural and then (weirdly) a tendency for bits that would actually have benefited from some more invasive choreography (such as "Tire Tracks") to have surprisingly little for the cast to do in them.
*Apart* from the choreography though it was a superb show.
And yes Will, Southampton is indeed dull as hell.
