Freedom Of Speech? / The Meat Loaf Debate

First of all, I would like to apologise to Dave if I made an error concerning the posts of Mr. Wordnix on Batmusical.

I said that Wordnix was talking about Meat Loaf's rant against WhiteOfHigh. I have to admit that this may have been a mistake.

Dave may be correct that Wordnix was not talking about the above metioned rant.

What Wordnix said was:

"So he throws a tantrum at one guy who doesn't like the video and I'm the one out? I responded as respectfully and logically as possible, pointing out that Mr. Loaf was yelling at the people who buy his records in the first place and suggesting he should show some respect. Looks like for once in my life I'm in the same club as Smeghead: Banned from MLUKFC. In a forum full of Neanderthals, I will take that hate and wear it as a badge of fucking honor.

Amusing though it may be, it still gives me the red ass, as Americans say. I tell him to respect his fans, I get banned. He tells a fan to go fuck himself in NO uncertain terms, and no infractions for the star. One law for the rulers and one for the people?

Here's my proposition: Meat's just as much to blame for "insulting other fans" and using what MLUKFC calls "inappropriate language." Ban him from his own fucking fan club forum, and show him that he's not special just because he's sold records. He's still a human being, and human beings respect each other for their differing opinions.

Jim's been tired of his shit for years, and now so are we.

Rant over."

Then Evil One added: "I do agree that Mr Loaf should watch his behaviour though. It doesn't make him look good."

While I can't defend myself against Dave's statements, I do wish to point out Evil One's statement in defence of AndrewG accusing me of being childish for posting Meat's comments on this board.

I also think that another point I made is still valid. They were talking about Meat's MLUKFC rants on Batmusical, so AndrewG, why is it childish to talk about them on this board?

I would like to thank Conas for putting everything in a nutshell when he made the following reply to AndrewG:

"He wasn't stirring shit by showing us a message that Meat Loaf posted. The problem with Meat Loaf is he has a massive ego and very low self esteem. He takes offense to anything negative and then goes on a foul mouthed rant. If the loaf didn't send such an insulting message in the first place there would be nothing to discuss.

You also asked why he didn't discuss it on the thread over at MLUKFC? You can't discuss anything over there epsecially something that might offend King chief Loaf. You of all people should know that."

However, even though there is freedom of speech in Britain, there are a few rules. One is that freedom of speech should not be used for the sake of spreading hate. Like someone calling someone else a daft cunt simply because they don't agree with their post.

Another rule that often applies to newspapers is that someone must publicly retract intentional or unintentional false information and apologise for their mistake. Well, I am indeed sorry to Dave.

I presumed that Wordnix was talking about the WhiteOfHigh rant. It didn't occur to me that old Meat might often do this kind of thing. As I said, it is very strange for a big star to have a go at fans in this way. Jim would never do such a thing.

It is safe to say that Jim is in favour of free speech and Meat Loaf is only in favour of it when it is what he wants to hear.

Before people accuse me of hating Meat, I would like to point out that I do not hate him and I do respect a lot of his work. I don't think anyone has ever interpreted Jim's music and lyrics as well as Mr. Loaf. I also admire his acting. He was wonderful in the episode of "House" that he guest starred in. I hope that he will get a big film role soon, now that he is managed by the super powerful Irving Azoff.

Its just that it was rather strange for a big star to behave in this way. As Evil One said on Batmusical, it doesn't make him look good. I feel that I can compare these rants to the completely unnecessary video that Meat posted where he asked about Jim's health. Of course he is allowed to do that under the rules of freedom of speech but one must wonder why he did it, when, as JD correctly pointed out, he knows people close to Jim that he could have asked, instead of making Jim's private business public.

However, Meat Loaf the artist, the singer and the actor, I do respect.

What I find amazing is that people talked about the Meat Loaf rant but didn't post any congratualtions notes to Jim for the write up he got in Classic Rock (see thread below, click the link for pictures). Jim sometimes reads the board and JD sends him posts that he might find interesting. It would be nice if Jim knew that we are all really pleased with the fact that a major UK rock magazine was paying homage to his genius.
