| I'll start with some quite obvious ones and leave you guys to explore the thread with less obvious ones! 1. Bruce Springsteen - Jungleland ... not hugely steinmanesque but possibly the greatest "death song" ever written, outstanding lyrics, amazing piano melody (so good that Dire Straits took it almost note for note in "Romeo and Juliet" (presuming Bittan / Iovine allowed them to)) pretty much the perfect song, although Brooooce's vocal is miles better in subsequent live versions! 2. Bob Seger - Roll Me Away ... just a perfect "Life is shit, let's get the fuck out of here" driving song...another Bittan piano and Iovine production with a better vocal than Brooooce.. production sounds like Dead Ringer (Iovine partially again) and Faster than the speed of night, but without the backing vocals.. I will always wonder how this song would have sounded with a Loaf vocal. 3. Alice Cooper - Poison ...very odd one this, could have picked something more obvious ie. Born to run, but Bad for good is such an obvious copy of born to run it's pointless.. I listened to Poison again tonight and despite the fact is doesn't sound lie an obvious steinsong, the influences are clearly there in the production, subject matter and even the "aaaaahhhhhh..ahhhhhh" backing vocals!! your turn!! | |
