I think HCTB had good musicians, great vocals, and lackluster lyrics. The songs did not fit any "concept" no matter how hard people try to make it fit. It was good that Meat tried a new sound and not imitating Jim, but people clearly didn't want it or maybe did not know about it.
It is time to look at facts. Meat is nearing his mid 60's and Jim is also in that age range. Jim hasn't released anything in years. As far as huge #1 hits for them and their sound it ain't gonna happen in a world of Lady Gaga unless a media giant like Clear Channel pushes the daylights out of it. I could see them still having a fan-pleasing, moderately successful hit if they work together. The whole Bat 3 thing was ugly. I honestly think Meat was contractually obligated to it and Jim was at least on board at first leading to the whole mess when the record company said we bought a "Bat" album and Meat was on the hook for it. Jim obviously doesn't need the money but he still has a stash of songs including "Body" that would be a shame not to release. Since I suspect Jim already has a lot of the production at least some stage of it from dream Engine, I could see Rob Cavallo or any competent producer taking Meat into the studio and getting vocals on Jim's tracks and give Jim final say, if Jim wants any vocals redone Meat would make a second trip to the studio to touch them up per Jim's instructions.
If Jim started an album from scratch today he would be close to 75 years old by the time it was ready to record and by the time the studio work was complete Meat and Jim would both be in their 80's if they lived that long.
The best chance to have some form of a hit, especially given the potential "Bat" musical and boosting it needs a new track or two from Meat and Jim IMO.
