As a young kid (I'm twenty now), I remember really, really, really liking Objects in the Rear View Mirror when it was played on the radio.
A few years ago, my dad was buying a CD to run to, and I suggested Meat Loaf: I had read something about him in an article or something and wanted to check it out, but really didn't want to pay money for the album. My dad bought the CD on my recommendation--thank God, this was one of the luckiest moments of my life.
I promptly forgot about it.
About six months later, I found the CD--it was Bat II--in his car when we were going to Braum's. I put it in the CD player and... well, the piano introduction just blew me away. I remember staring forward and hearing the piano and it was like I could see the notes in front of me. When the guitars and drums and background singers and everything came up, well, I realized this was some of the greatest music I had ever heard.
I listened to that CD over and over again. I swear, even though it wasn't a record, the laser almost wore it down. But for some reason, I never sought out any other albums. I didn't even hear Bat I until my CD player, and favorite album, were stolen and I decided to purchase the original as replacement.
After that, well, you can imagine how I came to be a fan, but honestly, for all this rambling, I really can't remember first discovering that Jim Steinman was the genius behind it all. There must have been a moment, a time when I Googled his name, but I don't remember it at all.
