Now, onto this other thing...the topic.....I know that a brief transcript was offered which (like the silly drummer bit I believed a few days ago)which I took on faith and made my comment to. Now I have listened to the recording you made from the BBC and I have made my own sketchy transcript. Ya gotta start with the start, people. CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING!! The transcript is sketchy because I leave out the redundant phrases of "like" and stuff....and got to the actual conversation between the DJ and Meat. The DJ asked Meat a series of questions from the listeners and got to one listener who prefaced that he had seen Meat on the telly earlier that day and the topic of Meat working with Jim Steinman came up on that show. So the DJ says: DJ: you said you were going to work with jimsteinman again now I know you had big falling out [mentions tour dedication].... Meat: Jim and I have had falling outs forever so its like but its like two brothers or a married couple you have falling outs but you say honey will you make the spaghetti tonight I'll buy the wine... ....I'm sorry....you need sugar before I get home? When you get that emotional...because you get an emotional tie when you work writer, singer, you get an emotional tie in that long and I was speaking to my lawyer right before I got on the plane to come here...Jimmy's gotta produce this, Jimmy's gotta do this...... Now, we put on our sophistication thinking caps. Those are the ones in the foot locker at the end of your bed that you forgot since school. The elements of factual development in the career lives of Meat and Jim is missing, he said to him, him said to he, we said to each other, and such like that. What is left, is Meat's statement, on the air to the listeners, and retelling a conversation had with his attorney. What this at its best, amounts to is a public apology by Meat for having sued Jim. This also amounts to a public statement that he would like the bygones to be bygones, and that he believes and hopes he has been close enough with Jim that they could be. Meat has expressed regrets at the lawsuit previously. This seems like one more expression. Bear in mind, there is the PR factor, in that someone, somewhere, inevitably, pressured Meat into talking about Jim. This is implied by the fact that everyone in this community gives that pressure and some of the community spills over into the media. Meat, minding his P's and Q's in the public arena, spoke the most sought after words, that he would work with Jim if he could, without reservation, even if people tell him that he shouldn't. He has said this before, I think I have read this before, and it is nothing new in line of his statements. When people are going to be working on a project together, they would just get to it, and the start dates of major tours are not typically the times for scheduling projects or sessions. Jim didn't start work on Bad For Good until he left the touring for BOOH in 1978 (he said in an interview). I'd say that this has an element of promotion to it, and has inherently no effect upon Jim's blog statement that no plans to work with Meat are in effect.
