Hey guys, I recently got ahold of the sheet-music for this song excised from the Broadway "Dance Of The Vampires". For those of you who don't know, it was supposed to take place somewhere between "Invitation To The Ball" and "Death Is Such An Odd Thing". I transcribed (nearly) 5 pages in a composing program I have. I don't know what to make of it except it sounds like a merry, comedic Broadway song with very quirky, bizarre lyrics. You almost get the impression Jim's mocking the low-brow humour the show's become by this point LYRICS (transcribed from the sheet music) There's an ancient Lower Belabartokovichian saying I'll try to paraphrase 'cause I don't quite recall: 'We'd rather mess with the angel of death That not have any angel at all.' Ah... Ah... Ah... "Or there's an alternative proverb which everybody knows." Sing lackaday boo hoo oy vey Inka dinka doo hoo ha! Hey, we ain't goin' nowhere now 'cause nowhere's much too far! Sing Johnny do, alack, alas, Badda bing badda boom, all right Ain't got what it takes to pull up stakes And besides we're not too bright You wonder why we stay here What reason can we give? It's the only home we've ever known And so you learn to live You learn to live with it You learn to live Don't mean to be morbid Or down in the mouth But search high and low From the north to the south You'll never discover another abode Where constant catastrophe is more a la mode We get throbbing goiters Every June and July But they're not half as bad As the piles (flies*) in our eyes Yet we don't complain or collectively bitch You think 'Belabartokovich' You think rectal itch Sing lackaday boo hoo oy vey Inka dinka doo hoo ha! Hey, we ain't goin' nowhere now 'cause nowhere's much too far! Sing Johnny do, alack, alas, Badda bing badda boom, all right Ain't got what it takes to pull up stakes And besides we're not too bright There's doom on every corner 'round every twist and turn Well, the fires of hell they started here So you know you're bound to burn And learn to live with it To live with it we learn People may christen this "Avalanche Creek" But we ain't had an earthquake in more than a week Now I ain't no killjoy, don't mean to be vague But me, I lost count of each new kind of plague Bubonic Teutonic Pneumonic colonic But that visitation was simply platonic Cystitus colitis neuralgia neuritis Horrific attacks of infectious arthritis The only thing worse was the phlegm in the beer That caused the great flood from the mass diarrhea The health care's atrocious, you die waiting in line God bless that new doctor Good luck Frankenstein! We're mocked and derided, insulted and slammed And each year in Zagat voted village of the damned Don't mean to be morbid 'cause morbid we ain't Our town is horrific but still kind of quaint Complete devastation The usual (a hideous*) fuss Our one thriving business is 'Corpses r us' We've battled repression, depression and tears Our thirty years war lasted three hundred years When in doubt do nothin' When oppressed stay put When they want you to go Hey! Just say no and shoot yourself in the foot You laugh, you cry, don't question why When it's time to go, you say bye bye And you learn to die with it You learn to die Just like you lived with it You learned to live with shit You learn to live with it When there's nothing more or left to give You learn to live NOTE: The Midi stops after the lines: "You think 'Belabartokovich' You think rectal itch" I'm still working on it. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I was wondering if it would push it if some midis were available for my DOTV 5th anniversary page at my Steinman site? If not, is anyone interested in helping out? | |
