Also, Bat out of Hell is full of characters. Meat approaches those songs with characters in mind. But the new album is different because it's more personal. Personally, I like that Meat's moving in a different direction and I'm happy that he was so happy with the last two albums, except that I've never actually listened to "Hang cool teddy bear" all the way through more than once, and you're "talking" to someone who's listened to all of "Midnight at the Lost and Found" how many times and "Blind before I stop", which I quite like? I don't know what it was about that album, but if I ever pick up the CD nowadays, it's just to listen to a couple tracks and that's it, like "Peace on Earth", "Los Angeloser", "Song of madness", "Elvis in Vegas". The other day I heard the Jack Black duet for the second time ever since I bought the album three years ago. But I loved "Hell in a Handbasket". "All of me", "The giving tree", "Live or die", "California dreamin", "Our love and our souls", "Stand in the storm", all of these tracks could have and probably should have been released as singles!!! I thought "Handbasket" was the best Meat Loaf album since "Couldn't have said it better" which I always liked, and maybe just maybe I think it goes one better than that, which puts it up there with "Welcome to the Neighbourhood". But I like this direction that Meat's moving in and I personally shudder at the thought of Meat doing new Jim songs without Jim involved in some capacity. Sigh. But if they're covers of old songs, I actually don't mind the sound of that. Bring on "More". I was listening to the "Wuthering Heights" version today. He and Patti could do that. > Listen to the songs, the lyrics on HIAHB... > they are so politically correct... with a hint of religion > here and there ... > The thought that a song like Everything Louder than > Everything Else was sung by the same guy who did Mad Mad > World or 40 Days (insert bucket here) baffles me. > > HIAHB is a man's album. > A man who knows his place. > A man who does his share. > A man who is a functional part of society... > A man fighting to make the world a better place for > everyone > A man who has dealt with the ghosts of the past > > BOOH (I & II) were a boy's albums. > A boy who didn't want to know his place > A boy who did his share if it suited him > A boy who wanted to be more than a mere cog in the wheels > of society > A boy fighting to make life worth living and dreams come > true > A boy trying to fight off the ghosts of the past > > NOTE: I'm talking about the songs here... not the people > behind them!!! > > > I'm just saying that Jim's songs are all passion... and > that Meat's songs have become about doing the right > thing... and have been rather weak, carefully worded and > safe lately... > > There's nothing wrong with either... but the rebel boy has > become a grown man... and I dread the moment when this man > tries to convince himself (and everyone else) that he's > still a rebellious boy... > Anyone who tries to convince others of something he/she is > not... overdoes it, overshoots the mark... and invariably > ends up alienating those he is trying to convince... > > > That said... of course Meat mentions Jim at every turn... > Meat needs Jim a hell of a lot more than Jim needs Meat? > I mean...
