I have heard of those types of attitudes there, and wonder how they get by with that Meat-God mentality. Interestingly, as much as they are the Meat-God worshipers, many including those who post here, are not worshiping Jim....not either one of them....and I make a general point of some attitudes without referring to anyone in particular. But if you have seen this board and compared it with the conduct of other fans, one sees somehow a difference. My father's fan site is full of sychophants but even in the haze he is very highly deferred to, with or without his presence, and he is posting on that board....it is a highly moderated board, however, and his posts have been included in moderators' edits...so that is that atmosphere. This on the board is more free. That is a good thing. One could also notice that the fans on the KISS board do have caring and concern for their fallen hero even as they wildly desire everything they can get out of their band. Jim on the other hand has to struggle for someone to take him seriously, and to tell you the truth, it hurts Steinman less not to be taken seriously in my far view of it, than it hurts Cypherd, because it is Steinman who acts in effect as a decoy, taking in the brunt of a lack of appreciation, and it is Cypherd who dearly needs to be appreciated. So I appreciate him. And I wish that some of you would too. Where can he go to find adulation he so much deserves, while you seek merely to share your thoughts about Meat? There is much balance lacking in the setting.

If you must make a critique about Meat's performance and feel stunted by the official Meat site, then I sympathize with you and wonder if you are brave enough to stand your ground to make it better there. One way of improving one's society is to stick it out loyally to that society and work within it to make the change. If non-loyalists of a type can infiltrate a society, then loyalists can take it back. That's just my own political philosophy. If nothing else it seems like the Meat site is a politically charged one, which is where your difficulties may stem from.

That makes sense, and I don't have a problem with that and was not referring to that in my post. But at the same time, you may like to try to email one of the known sharers and see if a private exchange could be arranged, if they do publish their email. Bear in mind that this is a recent recording, and probably nobody is going to show that they have it at this juncture if they did.

You are right, I was addressing the board members at large, those who make themselves larger than other board members.

Most recordings are heavily "edited" and the word used to describe that is "mixed". Mixing is where elements of poor quality are swapped out with elements of better quality to make a more cohesive recording, and if you find a recording with a bad mix, for example, then someone did not do their job. But, the nature of live performance is that it is inherently not consistent with a studio recording. Studio recordings are like the gallery displays of the best reflection of the art, while the live performance is that which is done on the fly. When there is someone who could be as good consistently on stage as in the studio, it means that they are not performing frequently or they did a recording simple enough to require a minimal mix. The charm of an imperfect live performance, in my opinion, is the genuinity that shows itself in the imperfections. Nobody ever criticized Robert Plant for his hoarse voice on a tour. Because watching him perform was the miracle.

For those who enjoy seeing Meat, the ones who see his performance as miracle are those who think he wrote the songs. It is the ignorance that creates the god-like quality, but dealing with a fan base it is an inevitable misconception. Nowhere before has fan bases been so visible to other fans as they are now because of the internet, and we are seeing the foibles of a fan community as well as the strengths of fan community. We don't have all the tallies in as to whether it is a good thing to have fan communities online, or a bad thing. But the way that people are longing to keep their ignorances, does not bode well for the state of democracy as a whole, in a political extrapolation.

The songs were written, they still exist. The only bubble that bursts is that the guy's name is Jim Cypherd. Boo Hoo. That is not so bad, is it? Unless you are a Rocky Horror fan. Then it is a bigger bubble. So, the guy at conventions is not the guy. This guy is the guy. See, you win and then you win again. It is not a heap of decadence, it is a thread of messages and things to understand. And, you get to keep the decadence but at a more sane level. It isn't Jim's fault that some people ran away with a train that didn't belong to them. And I'm sorry that you had so much invested emotionally in that train. But I betcha you'd be happier with the train when it is on its right track once you get used to it.

You have to first understand that the first Bat was written with a spirit of optimism, with a fresh view of possibilities that could be, without the harangues that have taken place subsequent. By the time it was rejected by 21 labels, it was already in the can, as Jim calls it. So, you didn't have the frustration reflected in the quality. Jim has been through alot and really needs your support. If you want him to raise his energy, you have to give him energy.

The Dream Engine is an interesting concept but I would give Rinkoff the urging to rework it so that voices that can carry a story, and production that reflects a story, can be on that recording, and Broadway singers aren't the winning formula. They have good intentions and good voices, but they have to be voice actors. And the production has simply got to be the best. An all-star album is more to my liking, and have a revue that could be similar to the Dirty Dancing Tour of 1988, at large venues, and long lines for tickets. Yummy!

No, I realize you are not stupid at all, and some people force a sense of humility onto others, but I think that you knew you were asking the unlikely. Indeed, be more confident. And thanks for all the wonderfully kind words.

Best,

Susan
